The TWIM 15 induction heater is designed to simplify the thermal installation process, said Ao Gong, SKF’s product development manager. “All the operator has to do is place the bearing in the center of the heater and attach a temperature probe to the inner ring or workpiece hole. On top, with the push of a button, TWIM 15 will heat the bearing to the target temperature for hot mounting."
Induction heaters use alternating magnetic fields to introduce heat into the interior of the component. These fields create an electric current in the bearing or workpiece, which heats up due to its natural resistance to current flow (the so-called Joule effect), resulting in an increase in temperature. This causes the material to expand, allowing the bearing to be installed without any friction or force. Once the bearing is positioned correctly and the temperature is reduced, it shrinks back to its original shape and creates the correct interference fit on the shaft.
Compared to other methods of heating bearings (such as oil baths or fire baking), induction heating reduces the risk of damage/injury to the bearing, shaft and operator, however, some induction heaters may cause the bearing to overheat, which can damage the bearing.
TWIM 15 is equipped with temperature probes, intelligent electronics and advanced operating software. The heater can optimize the heating process accordingly to ensure safe and reliable bearing heating.
More versatile and easier to use than other bearing heaters, the TWIM 15 uses a flat induction plate that eliminates the need for a support yoke and can heat a variety of bearings and components, including sensitive components such as bearings with reduced clearance.
Made from sturdy fiberglass-reinforced plastic, the TWIM 15 is lightweight and portable for use on construction sites, and its user-friendly control panel allows it to be operated without any special training.
SKF product marketing manager Bu Gong said, "If the bearing is not installed correctly, the bearing may fail prematurely. Maintaining the correct temperature during hot installation is the key to avoiding premature failure. What distinguishes TWIM 15 from other induction heaters is its Performance and versatility, simplicity of use, and safety and reliability."
